Kathmandu, 4 January: Indian External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is arriving in Kathmandu with his team in the Ministry this morning.
He is arriving here to attend the meeting of the Nepal-India Joint Commission. There are countless problems between Nepal and India, but our leaders in the government are reluctant to resolve them.
Those in the government think about the Indian interests rather than Nepal’s interests.
Earlier, the then-India comfortable government led by the late Surya Bahadur Thapa had allowed the Indian Embassy to distribute 3 crore rupees worth of grant support to different organizations and individuals in Nepal without the government’s notice.
Another India comfortable leader Baburam Bhattarai increased that amount to five crore rupees.
Now, according to reports, Prime Minister Pushpakamal Dahal led India’s comfortable government is willing to allow the Indian Embassy to distribute up to Rs 20 crore grants to Nepali organisations/individuals without informing the government.
This is an Indian plan for buying Nepali nationals to achieve their vested interests.
Moreover, the government is all prepared to sign an agreement for selling Nepali electricity to India. Until now, the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) has not disclosed how much profit it gained from the exports of electricity to India. Hydropower experts say that the NEA is supplying electricity to India at a loss. They believe it would be better to supply electricity to the local industries at a subsidized price rather than supplying it at a lower price to India. But the Indian comfortable government never thinks about the Nepali interests.
Besides, there are conditions in importing electricity from Nepal. India will purchase only the electricity generated through the Nepal-India joint venture. This means, India will not buy electricity produced through the third country investments or say through the Chinese investments. The agreement will encourage sole Indian investment in hydropower and capturing all Nepali rivers as Nepali leaders are unable to speak about Nepal’s water rights and the royalty that Nepal should get from the use of water by India.
