Deposed King Gyanendra became popular among the people

By Our Reporter

The deposed king was greeted by thousands of people when he reached Kapilvastu last month, signalling his growing popularity among the masses.

When former king Gyanendra reached Kapilvastu with his grandson Hridyandra, a sea of people gathered to greet them.

When the leaders in Kathmandu were expressing their views to strengthen the federal republican set-up, people in the western Tarai were thronging to see the former king and his grandson. The Kapilvastu show showed that the king was gaining popularity across the nation, not only in a particular geography.

He had drawn a similar crowd in Birtamod of Jhapa and Bhaktapur last year.

When the leaders who ushered in a republic set up with the help of their foreign masters saw the crowd behind the king, started crying that there was no alternative to the federal republic system.

Interestingly, when the popularity of the government and the ruling parties is waning, the former king is gaining popularity, clearly hinting that the people are not happy with the existing political system.
