PM’s granddaughter’s marriage becomes the talk of the town

By Our Reporter

Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been dragged into controversy after the lavish marriage ceremony of his granddaughter held at the Five Star Gokarna Resort last week.

When a communist leader, who waged an armed conflict, in which 17,000 Nepalis were killed, in the name of bringing about equality among the people for a decade and is leading a government which is said to be treading the path of socialism, throws a marriage party like a royal family, it was natural to draw criticism. And it is what is happening in the case of the Prime Minister. Social sites are now flooded with comments, making a mockery of the Maoists. Although a few pro-Prachanda party activists have tried to defend the marriage, they are negligible compared to the floods of harsh criticism.

When PM Dahal chose Gokrana Resort for the marriage of his granddaughter (daughter of Bharatpur Mayor Renu Dahal) with a man from Gorkha, it did only harm to his party and his communist image. Interestingly, PM and Maoist chair Dahal organised the lavish wedding ceremony at a time when the party had launched a nationwide campaign with a slogan of correcting the party to reach the people. But in Gokarna, Dahal was with the representatives of feudalist forces, which people watched on TV sets and YouTube. Even a section of the Maoist leaders criticised Dahal for exposing wealth and his true nature.
