Kathmandu turns into a gold-smuggling hub

Kathmandu, 9 December: Three people were arrested with two kilograms of gold at Nagdhunga Police checkpoint in Kathmandu on Friday. The police arrested three people from Nagadhunga with two kilos of gold from a private vehicle coming from Rasuwa to Kathmandu.

The team of the Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested three people along with gold on Friday morning. According to police sources, Gyalchiring Tamang, Viru Tamang and Sunil Bhujel were arrested.

Superintendent of Police Rabindra Regmi informed that the gold was seized by the police while entering Kathmandu through Rasuwa crossing. All three arrested are locals of Rasuwa. They were bringing the gold in a private vehicle.

Meanwhile, two people were arrested at Tribhuvan International Airport along with 14 kilos of gold the same morning.

Chandra Ghale, a passenger arriving at the Tribhuvan International Airport in Kathmandu from Dubai, was arrested along with 14 kg of gold on Friday morning at the airport.

It is believed that the huge quantity of gold smuggled to Kathmandu is going to be smuggled to different parts of India by taking advantage of the open border.

Although we have a India-comfortable government here, it has failed to control the smuggling of gold and drugs permanently as the smugglers have a strong setting. Surprisingly, only the gold porters are being arrested, and the main owners of the gold are always escaping from the Police.
