Although Israel and Hamas exchanged a fifth round of detainees after declaring a four-day truce, Nepal’s Bipin Joshi was not on the list of freed detainees.
In the fifth round of release on Tuesday, Hamas released 12 hostages and Israel freed 30 Palestinian prisoners. But Joshi’s whereabouts are still not known.
Among the released hostages by Hamas include nationals from Austria, Argentina and the Philippines. Egypt and Qatar have been negotiating the release after convincing the two warring parties to declare a truce, which is now extended for the fifth day.
Nepal has requested Qatar to help release Joshi during the recent Nepal visit of State Minister for Foreign Affairs of the State of Qatar Soltan bin Saad Al-Muraikhi who arrived in Kathmandu on November 23.
Poor diplomatic channels and the weak foreign policy of Nepal have been blamed for the delay in the release of Joshi who was kidnapped by Hamas on October 7 while 10 other Nepali students were killed and four injured in the Hamas attack.
