Amid criticism President cancels Europe tour

By Our Reporter

President Ramchandra Paudel has finally cancelled his visit to France, Italy and Germany citing that it was inappropriate to leave the country when the country is facing devastating disaster after November 3’s earthquake.

Kiran Pokharel, Press advisor to President Paudel, through a press note on Monday, informed that a cabinet meeting decided to cancel the visit citing the dire situation, human casualties and damage to the property of the country caused by the Jajarkot earthquake even though the President’s visit was significant for the country.

A Cabinet meeting held on Sunday approved the President’s visit.

When the public came to know about the President’s visit amid the tragedy, his planned visit drew wide criticism from social media. When journalists and others heavily criticised the France tour of the President at a time when many Nepalis were killed and rendered homeless was inappropriate, he finally cancelled the trip.

Earlier, he was to fly to Paris on Wednesday.
