United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres paid a four-day visit to Nepal at the invitation of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal.

After landing in Kathmandu on Sunday Morning, Guterres had a busy schedule till Tuesday evening.

During his four-day stay, he met the chiefs of almost all political parties, including Prime Minister Dahal and both Deputy Prime Ministers, and visited Pokhara, Lumbini, Annapurna Base Camp and the Everest Region. He spent one night in Pokhara and addressed the joint session of the federal parliament in Kathmandu on Tuesday.

Guterres, who had postponed his earlier visit on October 13, in the wake of the Israel-Hamas war, spent four days in Nepal as if there was no conflict around the world.

However, he expressed concerns about the effect of climate change while touring ABC and the Everest region and wished for world peace in the world while praying Lumbini.

In his address to the joint session, he appreciated Nepal’s peace process, Nepal’s participation in the UN Peace Troops and Nepal’s beauty while expressing concerns about the effect of climate changes in the Himalayas.

He also assured UN support to mitigate the effects of climate change and for the graduation of Nepal to the status of a developing nation.

Wrapping his four-day visit, Gutrres left Kathmandu Wednesday. He was seen off by Deputy Prime Minister Purna Bahadur Khadka at the Tribhuvan International Airport.
