Modi visits Gunji, Nepali territory, Nepali political parties keep mum

By Our Reporter

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Nepali village Gunji encroached by India on Thursday. However, the government and political parties remained indifferent to the visit to Nepali soil by the Indian Prime Minister.

Modi reached Gunji village on Thursday morning and discussed with locals, as shown in the videos of the visit. He is also shaking hands with kids. However, mostly only women greeted him.

The government on May 20, 2020 issued a new map of Nepal including the areas of Limpiyadhura, Kalapani and Lipu Lek currently encroached by India in Nepali territory. Modi reached Gunji almost three and a half years after the new map was issued by Nepal.

By visiting Gunji, Modi has obviously tried to assert that the territory belongs to India. India has reportedly built a Kali Temple there with a drain to prove that the place is the source of the Kali River and not Limpiyadhura.

No Indian prime minister had visited the area.

Surprisingly, the Nepali administration does not have any information about Modi’s visit. Modi also offered prayers at the Parvati Kund during his visit to the area. Dressed in local traditional attire complete with a turban, he also played a power drum and conch shell while offering prayers at Parvati Kunda.
