Nepal turns into a smuggling hub

BABBLES

By Babbler

How many quintals of gold are being smuggled via Nepal every month, this can be a good subject for those investigative journalists. Nepal cannot consume such a large quantity of gold, surely, it is being smuggled to India via Nepal.

As Indians want to keep the Nepal-India international border open, it has become a haven for international smugglers involved in gold, drugs and fake currency traffickers. Who knows, some other day, those international terrorist groups target India taking benefit of the open border! We are aware that our security is very poor but the Indian security is also not strong as the smugglers are successfully carrying the smuggled gold to different parts of India.

Regulating the international border is in the interests of both Nepal and India. Will the Indians accept this truth?

The government does not hesitate to give pardon to those who have committed serious crimes including murder. Our President is happy to approve such government proposals without hesitation. Viewing the present attitude of the government, it seems that jails are constructed only for those criminals who are unable to develop their contacts with the top-ranking politicians.

Rajendra Lingden had remarked that the politicos are called thieves but now they have been promoted to the rank of dacoits.

 When God is also cheated

In the past, people were afraid of God. They, being afraid of God, were maintaining honesty as God may punish them if involved in wrong deeds.

Today, people do not hesitate even to cheat God. Lord Pashupatinath is a highly respected God for the Hindus. But people working in the Pashupati Area Development Trust manipulated around one and a half Kg of gold while making a new Jalahari for God. Perhaps, this is the result of making Nepal a secular nation.

NAC establishes a record of foreign currency receiver

Nepal Airlines Corporation has stood as the No 1 institution receiving foreign currency. Many private sector institutions are doing good business and receiving the highest amount of foreign currency but they manipulate it. As Nepal Airlines is solely owned by the government, it didn’t manipulate the foreign currency. The Airline received foreign currency while doing business.

The Airline, known to be the best airline in the region in the past, was ruined along with the dawn of multiparty democracy. When Girija Prasad Koirala became the prime minister, he started to squeeze the Airline. This trend continued.

Operation of the national flag carrier for Nepal like landlocked country is very important. No doubt, if the government stops political intervention and ends up the practice of recruiting political workers, the Airline can run smoothly. Good management with professionals and skilled manpower is needed.

The concept of government should not do business is not right always. The government can do business, especially, in Nepal like a country, where the market has not been developed properly, and the “demand and supply” theory doesn’t work properly. The government intervention in the market is also necessary. In Nepal like country, a mixed economy is essential. We saw anomalies in the functioning of the open market economy.

QUOTES OF THE WEEK

If we wish to save the nation, let’s abandon the National Assembly; let’s abandon provinces; let’s abandon coordination committees; let’s manage one MP from one district; let’s abandon constitutional commission; let’s make 15-member federal cabinet of ministers; let’s reduce the number of local bodies to 441; let’s develop one hydropower project in one fiscal year; let’s establish seven big industries in one fiscal year; let’s abandon all the “deputy” posts; let’s stop misuse of the government vehicles.

Narendra Bikram Chand

Bad governance has crossed the limit. The government is collecting 70 rupees as tax per litre of petroleum products and continuously inclining the price. The government is imposing tax on labourers who go to the Gulf countries, whereas, the PM is visiting USA and China with a jumbo team. The government should not undermine commoners’ strength.

Madhab Dhungel

Such [debt-trap] narratives are disseminated by Western media and shouldn’t be taken at face value. However, this doesn’t mean we should unquestioningly accept all terms in the Belt and Road Initiative (BRI). We need to evaluate what aligns with our interests.

My first project… although the first was in South Africa…but then Eastern Europe and the USSR. As the Soviet empire collapsed, I moved in and picked up the pieces. First in Hungary in 1984, in Poland and China in 1987. So the Soros empire replaced the Soviet empire.

George Soros

Nepal is on the path of dissolution. Those politicos are responsible for accepting foreign imposition for dissolving the nation.

There is no significance in keeping jails. Those who have no reach among the leaders have to face the jail term.

One big media is found lobbying to manipulate VAT. The media house had kept 50 million rupees instead of paying the collected VAT amount to the government while Baburam Bhattarai was leading the government. Now, the amount has reached 220 million rupees and the finance minister has given words for considering 150 million rupees!

How much burden should we bear? One President and around one dozen of his advisors; one prime minister and around two dozen of his advisors and secretaries; above 15 ministers and six advisors and office secretaries of each minister; one MP with one secretary; one municipality chief and one municipality deputy chief and their advisors and secretaries; one coordination chief and his advisors and secretaries!

The duty of the province assembly members: Receiving salary and allowance; becoming minister; receiving commission; misusing the government vehicle and initiating corruption.

Narendra Bikram Chand

It is not a joke that the youths asked the dethroned king to create an environment to stay them in the country as it is impossible to live in the country and have to go to the Gulf. Those youths are the future of Nepal. Leaders are not concerned about their future or are not sensitive towards the Nepalese citizens.

Yubraj Ghimire

45.9% of Indians and 39.4% of Pakistanis live below the $3.65 poverty line as of September 2023.

That means more people in Bharat live below the poverty line even compared to Pakistan.

Ratna Sansar Shrestha

India had opened fire on Nepal by putting guns on the Maoists’ soldiers.

Narayanman Bijukche

The nation has already fallen into a financial crisis. We cannot feed this imported loktantrik federalism by taking foreign debt.
