
Kathmandu, 25 August: Finance Minister Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat has been elected to the post of vice chairman of the Global Environment Facility (GIF) by the 7th World Conference.
The Republic of Panama had proposed, and the Netherlands had supported Dr Mahat’s candidature.
Earlier, Dr Mahat addressing the Assembly of the Global Environment Fund stated that Nepal has preserved 45 percent of the forest, providing pure oxygen to human beings around the world. He also stated that Nepal has become the resource for water for one billion population in South Asia.
