President Ram Chandra Paudel has appointed Lok Bahadur Thapa as the Ambassador of Nepal to the United Nations Permanent Mission in New York.
Thapa is the first to get an appointment among the six career diplomats picked by the government as ambassadors of Nepal to many countries and the UN missions.
This is the first time, the government picked only career diplomats for the post of ambassadors.
The Parliament Hearing Committee has already endorsed their names. They included Ram Prasad Subedi for Switzerland, Sudhir Bhattarai for France, Ghanashyam Lamsal for Kuwait, Tej Bahadur Chettri for United Arab Emirates and Dhan Bahadur Oli for Thailand.
The government had recommended six senior joint-secretaries of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs for various diplomatic missions abroad and sent their names to the Public Hearings Committee for a parliamentary hearing.
