At a time when Nepali sky is being portrayed as unsafe, a fatal helicopter crash occurred on Tuesday killing all six on board.
A Manang Air helicopter 9N-AMV crashed in Solukhumbu on Tuesday.
The helicopter, which took off from Surke at 10.04 am and was en route to Kathmandu, went missing at 10.13 am, and was later found crashed at Lamjura, Likhu Pike Rural Municipality–5.
According to the Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN), the helicopter was carrying six people, five passengers and the pilot, all of whom perished in the accident.
The five passengers were Mexican nationals while Chet Bahadur Gurung of the ill-fated chopper was an experienced pilot.
All six bodies were airlifted to Kathmandu and handed over to the Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital for post-mortem in the evening.
This is the fourth helicopter crash and the second fatal one this year. Slightly over two months ago, on May 5, a Simrik Air chopper with the registration sign 9N-AJZ crashed at Siprung, Bhotkhola Rural Municipality–4, Sankhuwasabha, killing one.
Before that, in April, two helicopters belonging to two companies crashed one day apart from each other, fortunately, without any casualties. An Air Dynasty chopper crashed on the helipad of the HAMS Hospital in Kathmandu on April 8 and a Heli Everest copter crashed near the Dhaulagiri Base Camp on April 9.
Meanwhile, the government has formed a committee to investigate the crash. According to Minister for Communication and Information Technology Rekha Sharma, the Cabinet meeting held on Tuesday formed an inquiry committee under the leadership of Buddhi Sagar Lamichhane, Joint Secretary at the Ministry of Tourism and Civil Aviation.
