The Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City has won the hearts of the Nepali people because of his pro-nationalist stance over the row relating to the controversial Hindi movie Adhipurush.
Because of his opposition to the film, the distributors could not release the movie not only in Kathmandu but also across the nation. Following the footstep of Shah, Pokhara Metropolitan City, Dharan Sub Metropolitan City and Baglung Municipality imposed a ban on the screening of not only Adipurush but also other Hindi movies.
Although the High Court gave an order not to impose a ban on the screening of the Hindi movie, Balen challenged the decision stating that issues of national sovereignty and independence cannot be compromised. Shah who had opposed the film for the dialogue that Sita was born in India, was irked further when the writer of the movie in an interview said that Nepal was part of India,
When the theatres after the High Court order screened Hindi films in halls, the turnout of the audience was so poor that the distributors of the movies expressed their worry about the deteriorating business of the film industry.
Now it seems, the market of Hindi movies has been spoiled in Nepal because of the controversial dialogue of Adipurush and the comments of the writer of the movie. It may take months for Hindi movies to revive the spoiled market in Nepal.
