Political observers have begun to “see” two faces of Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba. One image of a young and dynamic Prime Minister is being sought to be projected by the official media which had a field day during the Prime Minister’s recent foreign outing to the Non –Aligned Summit at Cartegena, Colombia, and to the 50th-anniversary celebration of the United Nations in New York.
In that category are large size photographs of Deuba with Indian Prime Minister P.V Narsingh Rao, US President Bill Clinton, UN Secretary-General Boutros Boutros-Ghali, and so on. Also, the fact that it was Deuba that emerged as the first Prime Minister of the second generation of the Nepali Congress rather than other hopefuls such as Ram Chandra Poudel and Shailaja Acharya has been helpful in shorting up Deuba’s image as a political success story.
