Kathmandu, 1 August: President Bidya Devi Bhandari has appointed Chief of General Staff Gen Prabhu Ram Sharma as the acting Chief of Army Staff under the recommendation of the Council of the Cabinet effective from 10 August.
CoAS Gen Purnachandra Thapa is going to get compulsory retirement from 9 September and he is staying on leave one month earlier to his retirement as per the Nepal Army tradition. Gen Sharma has been assigned as the acting CoAS to work during the absence of CoAS Thapa.
Gen Sharma, the second man in the Nepal Army, is to going succeed Gen Thapa after 9 September.
