Madhav Nepal, Pushpakamal Dahal, Baburam Bhattarai, Upendra Yadav, among others, never become tired of claiming that they fought for multiparty democracy in the country.
Yes, they achieved the multiparty democracy but they have not been able to walk properly under the democracy they had fought for.
They knocked on the court door to suspending some provisions which would strengthen multiparty democracy. They demanded disobeying the party whip and the court made clear that the MPs can disobey the party whip. They demanded the right to vote in favour of the candidate belonging to the rival political party and the court has given permission.
Now, it seems, the present constitution is non-less than a Panchayat system, which they say an autocratic.
Odd scenario
The Madhav Nepal faction in the ruling party was found celebrating its joy on the court order for the appointment of NC President Sher Bahadur Deuba to the post of the PM. They were seen happy on dismissing their party chairman K.P. Sharma Oli from the PM’s post. Can we see such a seen in the Westminster model democracy?
NC victorious or looser?
NC lost the local, provincial and federal elections, yet, it has got the opportunity to lead a coalition government.
Sher Bahadur Deuba is a lucky guy in Nepali politics. He has got the opportunity to become the fifth prime minister from the court’s order. But, the real prime ministers are Madhav Nepal and Pushpakamal Dahal Prachanda, the communists.
