Kathmandu, 9 July: From the bitter experience of the first and second wave of the Covid-19 cross-country transmission, the government has concluded to regulate the Nepal-India open border.
“Nepal and India share 1880 km long common border. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, we have concluded regulating the Nepal-India border permanently,” said Home Secretary Maheshwar Neupane addressing a seminar organised by the Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA).
“There is no possibility for controlling the free movement of people from each other’s country, however, we have concluded regulating the open border to control cross border crime,” he said.
Retired general of the Nepal Army Balananda Sharma opined that the border cannot be kept open.
Border expert Buddhinarayan Shrestha has also opined for regulating the Nepal-India border. He said that an open border is a threat for both countries.
