Kathmandu, 15 April: The Supreme Court (SC) has issued an order to scrap the provision of annual renew of online media A divisional bench of Justice Deepak Kumar Karki and Sushmalata Mathema issued a directive to annul the rule which stated that online media would be shut if its renewal is not carried out annually.

The apex court order has scrapped the provisions stipulated in the Clause 6 of the Online Media Operation Directive-2073 that was introduced against the spirit of the Nepal Constitution on freedom of expression and the press. Hearing on a writ petition filed by advocate and journalists, Leelanath Ghimire and Bishnu Kumar Giri the apex court revoked the online media directive’s provision that stated the service of online media could be shut if their renew was not done per annum.
