President Bidya Devi Bhandari Friday conferred with various honorary titles, decorations and medals to 633 dignitaries amidst a special function held at the Office of President, Sheetal Niwas.
President Bhandari conferred with the titles on the occasion of Constitution Day (National Day) 2019 (2076 B.S.) in accordance with Article 277 (1) of the constitution of Nepal.
However, the orders, decorations and medals distributed by the President drew criticism as the map of Nepal inserted in them has not shown Limpiyadhura and Kalapani, which means the old faulty map was used in the medals.
Although Home Ministry said the medals were of last year when the updated map was not inserted in the Constitution and the medals could not be distributed because of COVID-19, people continue to criticise the lapses.
It said the new medals which would be distributed next week will have the updated map.
Again, most of the recipients of the honours are those who are close to Prime Minister Oli and ministers, clearly hinting that the government has rewarded those who supported every move of the government and the ruling leaders.
According to a press statement issued by the Ministry of Home Affairs, President Bhandari conferred with the title and medal of ‘Mahaujjwal Rastra Deep (First Class) to two people, Suprasiddha Prabal Janasewa Shree (First Class) to seven people, Ujjwal Kirtimaya Rastra Deep (First Class) to one, Prasiddha Prabal Janasewa Shree (Second Class) to one, and Sukirtimaya Rastra Deep (Third Class) to nine people.
Similarly, the President conferred with the titles Suprabal Janasewa Shree (Third Class) to 112 people, Kirtimaya Rastradeep (Fourth Class to eight people, Prabal Janasewa Shree (Fourth Class) to 200 people, and Janasewa Shree (Fifth Class) to110 people.
Likewise, the President conferred decorations on 155 people and medals on 28 people.
Meanwhile, President Bidya Devi Bhandari honoured 452 other persons with various decorations, titles and medals on the first day of New Year 2078 n Wednesday. The recipients were announced on Constitution Day in September last year.
A committee chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Iswar Pokharel with Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa, Prof. Dr Meena Baidya, Prof Dr Indrajit Rai, Harihar Sharma, Kasendra Prasad Yadav and Major General Binod Kumar Shrestha as members and Home Secretary Maheswar Neupane member-secretary selected the awardees.
The decorations and medals are being provided on the recommendation of the Government of Nepal, Council of Ministers.
