Kathmandu, 25 September: Kishor Shrestha, acting chairman of the Nepal Press Council (NPC) has tendered resignation from the post today to the Council Board.
The Council board had assigned Shrestha as the acting chairman of the NPC after its chairman Bhawani Baral faced a court case. Baral’s case is still impending at the Constitutional Court.
Today’s board meeting, based on seniority, has assigned Gopal Budhathoki, editor-in-chief of the Sanghu vernacular weekly and Council board member.
According to the NPC practice, in case of vacant the post of the chairman, the Board should assign the senior-most member as the acting chairman.
Budhathoki has assumed office from today, according to Ratopati Online.
