If all goes as planned, Bam Dev Gautam will be appointed in the National Assembly within a few weeks. The powerful man of the Nepal Communist Party, who played the key role to unify the then Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist) and Maoist Centre into present Nepal Communist Party and prepared the election manifesto of the party, has lost the election to Nepali Congress leader Sanjay Gautam in Bardiya. However, a power-hungry man, Gautam could not wait for another two years, is now ready to reach the Upper House. He even invited a crisis in the party for being unable to reach the parliament.
However, his appointment in the NA will be an insult to the people’s mandate. He lost the elections because people did not like him. But now the same man is getting an appointment in the parliament. This comes as an instance of how the ruling Nepal Communist Party has undermined the people’s mandate. Earlier, Narayankaji Shrestha, another election loser, was appointed in the NA also in the NCP ticket. Besides, others had reached the NA after losing the elections of ward member, ward chairman and rural municipality chairman. Of course, the NA has now been made a house of the people-rejected leaders.
