Kulman Ghising, the Managing Director of Nepal Electricity Authority, whose four-year term in office is expiring in the next 12 days, has received overwhelming public support that he should be reappointed as he is credited for ending load-shedding in Nepal.
Surprisingly, popular celebrities like Rajesh Hamal, Madan Krishna Shrestha, Hari Bansha Acharya, actor Deepak Raj Giri, actress Karishma Manandhar and many more have backed for Ghising’s reappointment. It was actor Giri who spread the rumour of Ghising’s reappointment a week ago. Besides, general people, leaders with popular people base and others have also come to the fore demanding his reappointment. Now the situation is such that the government cannot go against the public expectation and has to reappoint Ghising. But his reappointment may replace Energy Minister Barshaman Pun as the two are said to be not in good terms.
While supporting Ghising, the public has protested against former MD Mukesh Kafle who has been accused of imposing 18-hour-a day load-shedding in the past.
Ghising was due to step down on 14 September, but after widespread public outrage on social and mainstream media, the Energy Ministry has prepared an endorsement for another four-year term. Sources said Energy Minister Barsha Man Pun has proposed that Ghising be allowed to continue to Prime Minister Oli as well as brought it up with NCP co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal.
