The fate of Millennium Challenge Corporation has still been uncertain although the deadline to endorse this has already been expired. Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and main opposition party Nepali Congress want to endorse the Rs. 55 billion project. Recently, the task force formed to suggest ways to settle the dispute surfaced in the ruling party has also included a suggestion regarding the MCC.
It said the project should be endorsed by making some amendments to its some provisions. It asked to allow the Nepal Electricity Authority to build transmission lines and the construction cost of a kilometre transmission should be Rs. 50 million per kilometres and it should be built as per the law of Nepal.
However, the US had already denied any amendment to MCC. As such, its endorsement looks impossible.
