Indian authorities have unilaterally published a new political map breaching all international norms, values and laws which places Nepal’s Kalapani into its own land. According to the Sugauli Treaty of 1816, Kalapani falls in Nepal’s territory and the Department of Survey has taken this issue to the higher authorities in Nepal for further action and negotiation with India.
The Survey Department has taken issue with a new Indian political map that places the disputed territory of Kalapani within its territory, a scenario Nepali officials described as the “status quo”.
In the new map, the disputed Jammu and Kashmir state has been split into two federal territories ending Kashmir’s autonomy.
