Police expect factual, courageous reporting from journalists: IGP

Kathmandu, Oct 31: Nepal Police Inspector General Dan Bahadur Karki has said the police organisation has always expected journalists to deliver impartial, factual and courageous reporting.

He made the remarks less than 24 hours after journalists from several media outlets were detained by police.

“Nepal Police always expects our journalist colleagues to report impartially, factually and courageously,” Karki wrote on Facebook. “The Nepal Police is firmly committed to providing all possible support to ensure that journalists face no obstacles in carrying out their work.”

Calling for unprecedented cooperation to reduce the impact of disasters, Karki said journalists play an important role in minimising losses by providing citizens with accurate information at the right time, particularly during sensitive periods.

“Nepal Police will remain fully committed to fulfilling its primary responsibility, as always, by working to protect lives and property from disasters,” he wrote.
