Journalist Shrestha taken to Cyber Bureau for questioning

Kathmandu, Oct 17: Police took Jan Aastha weekly editor-in-chief Kishor Shrestha to the Cyber Bureau on Saturday morning, saying he was being brought in for a discussion over a complaint.

A bureau team arrived at his home in Nakkhu to take him to its office.

“He was brought in for a discussion after a complaint was filed against him,” a senior bureau source told Onlinekhabar.

Himesh Panta, a central committee member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party, filed the complaint on Friday over a news report. Shrestha also lodged a complaint against Panta at the bureau.

According to bureau sources, police plan to bring both sides together for a discussion.

Kathmandu police had previously detained Shrestha on Shrawan 27. Officers searched his residence and seized laptops, computers and other electronic equipment.

Following a habeas corpus petition, the Supreme Court ordered his release and directed police to continue their investigation by requiring him to report to authorities or appear on scheduled dates. He was released on Bhadra 1.
