Former King extends Dashain greetings; urges countrymen to turn grief into strength

Kathmandu, October 16: Former King Gyanendra Shah has extended his best wishes to all Nepalis living at home and abroad on the occasion of Bijaya Dashami 2083 (2026).

In his Dashain greeting message, former King Shah recalled the recent floods and natural disasters that had struck the country and expressed serious concern over the suffering endured by ordinary people, the country’s ongoing political instability, and its deteriorating economic and social conditions.

Referring to the extensive loss of life and property caused by severe flooding in the Bhotekoshi and Budhi Gandaki rivers, as well as incessant rainfall, he said the country must turn grief into strength and move forward.

He stressed that the rapid reconstruction of damaged physical infrastructure and the immediate rehabilitation of disaster victims must be given top priority. He also emphasized the need for diplomatic prudence when accepting external assistance to safeguard national dignity and local traditions.

Noting that the country’s political, constitutional, judicial, economic, and administrative sectors were mired in uncertainty, the message called on all concerned to take the strengthening of democratic methods and procedures seriously and work towards reviving the economy.

Expressing confidence that the younger generation would assume responsibility and inspire hope for the country’s future, he called for building a united rather than divided Nepal, and a self-reliant rather than dependent nation.
