Berlin, Oct 13: German Chancellor Friedrich Merz has called a recent diesel export agreement between the United States and Russia “unacceptable” for Germany and Europe.
Speaking at a news conference in Berlin on Monday, Merz said Germany was complying with sanctions against Russia and remained committed to supporting Ukraine.
He also said Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy could count fully on Germany and Europe.
Russian President Vladimir Putin spoke by telephone with US President Donald Trump last Friday. After the call, Trump announced that the two had agreed that Russia would supply diesel fuel to the United States and global markets.
On Saturday, the Russian government partially lifted restrictions on diesel exports that had been in place since early 2026. Source: Xinhua
