NTA warns ISPs against charging above agreed internet package rates

KATHMANDU, Oct 12: The Nepal Telecommunications Authority (NTA) has warned internet service providers of action if they charge customers more than agreed package rates or change packages without regulatory approval.

In a notice, the regulator said some providers had raised prices and altered existing packages without its consent. Others had failed to publish their approved rates and package details, causing difficulties for consumers.

NTA Assistant Spokesperson Pradip Paudyal said Section 42 of the Telecommunications Act, 1996, requires licensed providers to charge only rates approved by the authority and make those rates public.

The NTA directed providers to publish complete details of all approved packages, prices and conditions on their websites, mobile apps and at customer service centres. Providers must present the information clearly and deliver services in accordance with those terms.

The regulator said these requirements protect consumers’ right to choose packages freely. Companies that fail to comply will face regulatory action.
