Budhigandaki flood damages four hydropower projects totalling 412.41 MW

Kathmandu, Oct 11: Flooding in the Budhigandaki River has damaged four hydropower projects with a combined capacity of 412.41 megawatts, according to preliminary reports.

The flood damaged project camps, construction equipment, Bailey bridges, access roads and bridges leading to project sites.

The 341 MW Budhigandaki Hydropower Project appears to have suffered the greatest damage. Its main camp was swept away, along with some construction equipment at the site.

The 24.5 MW Dovan Khola Hydropower Project also sustained damage. Several buildings in its camp area were damaged, while its Bailey bridge was washed away.

At the 30.91 MW Yaru Khola Hydropower Project, the flood damaged a Bailey bridge and swept away construction materials and equipment.

The 16 MW Machha Khola Hydropower Project suffered damage to its access road and the bridge leading to the site. The damage could disrupt access and construction work.

The total financial losses at the four projects have yet to be established and made public.
