Kathmandu, Sept 28: The water level in the Narayani River remains above the alert level as of Monday morning, but the flow has been steadily receding.
At the Narayani River monitoring station in Devghat, authorities have maintained a yellow alert for Monday, indicating that minor fluctuations in the water level are possible and caution is still required. The situation is forecast to return to normal from Tuesday.
According to the Flood Forecasting Division’s five-day forecast, no immediate flood risk is expected in major river basins, including the Koshi, Karnali and Mahakali.
Water levels in these rivers, as well as the Kankai, Kamala, Bagmati, East Rapti, Tinau, Banganga, West Rapti and Babai, are expected to show only normal fluctuations through October 2 (Asoj 16).
All these rivers have been placed under a green alert for the next five days, indicating a low flood risk.
The division said smaller rivers and streams across the country also face no immediate threat of flooding.
“From today through Wednesday, September 30 (Asoj 14), flows in most small rivers across the country are expected to remain normal,” the division said.
The latest forecast map also shows a low risk of sudden river surges across the country over the next 24 hours.
The division said the possibility of flash floods in smaller rivers flowing through different districts remains low, placing the entire country under the green, or low-risk, category.
