Kathmandu, September 27: Following continuous rainfall, a cruise ship named Rhino, which operates on the Narayani River in Chitwan, has been swept away by floodwaters.
The cruise, which had been moored along the Narayani riverbank, was swept away on Sunday afternoon.
The cruise is currently stuck at the Narayani bridge, raising concerns that it could potentially damage the bridge.
After the cruise became lodged beneath the bridge, vehicular movement across it was halted as a precaution against possible risks. The closure of the bridge connecting Bharatpur in Chitwan with Gaindakot in Nawalpur has disrupted traffic along the East-West Highway.
The cruise had been a popular attraction for both domestic and foreign tourists visiting the Narayani riverbank.
The Narayani River has swollen significantly following several days of continuous and torrential rainfall. The flooding, believed to be the largest so far, has also entered nearby settlements.
As the river level crossed the danger mark, residents of the riverside areas were evacuated to safer locations.
