Kathmandu, Sept 25: Continuous rain has triggered landslides at seven locations along the Prithvi Highway, including Krishnabhir, leaving the road completely blocked.
Rocks and debris have been falling at Krishnabhir since Thursday night. Crews have been clearing the road, but further rain has hampered their work. The road has also begun to subside from below, Dhading Chief District Officer Laxmi Pandey said.
Pandey reported landslides at Jare, Jawangkhola, Parevabhir, Kamerebhir and Jyamire, among other locations on the Dhading side.
Meanwhile, a section of the highway collapsed near Dharapani in Ichchhakamana Rural Municipality–4, Chitwan, at around 6:15 am Friday, blocking traffic there.
The Dhading District Administration Office has suspended all traffic on the highway until further notice. The Chitwan administration has also closed the Mugling–Narayangadh road.
The closures come as the Department of Hydrology and Meteorology warns of heavy to extremely heavy rain in parts of the country through September 27.
