Six Indian tourists stranded in Uper Dolpa rescued

Kathmandu, November 2: Six Indian tourists who were stranded in Upper Dolpa due to heavy snowfall have been rescued by helicopter.

The three women and three men had been out of contact in the mountainous region. They had travelled to Dolpa via a hazardous mountain route without obtaining the required administrative permits.

While returning from Dho in Dolpo Buddha Rural Municipality towards Phoksundo Lake, they were caught in heavy snowfall in the area around Numla and Bagala passes. A helicopter was dispatched to rescue them after adverse weather conditions left them stranded.

The helicopter, which flew to the area on Monday morning, rescued two female tourists on its first flight and brought them to Dunai, the district headquarters. On its second flight, it rescued the remaining female tourist and three male tourists.

According to Dolpa Chief District Officer Junu Hamal Dhakal, all six rescued tourists are in normal health condition.

The District Administration Office had received information that the tourists were stranded in the snowfall. Rescue efforts were initiated soon afterwards, but the operation was delayed due to bad weather and difficulties in arranging a helicopter.
