Kathmandu, October 31: The first-stage warning siren has been activated at the Kulekhani Reservoir in Indrasarovar Rural Municipality, Makwanpur, after the water level rose to 1,528.50 metres.
The Kulekhani First Hydropower Station of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA) sounded the first-stage warning siren on Saturday evening as continuous rainfall caused the reservoir’s water level to rise.
According to the hydropower station, if further rainfall pushes the water level higher and it becomes necessary to open the dam gates to release water and maintain a safe reservoir level, another siren will be sounded to issue additional information and warnings.
Residents living in areas downstream of the dam have been urged to stay away from riverbanks and move to higher, safer locations.
Similarly, people travelling along the Deurali–Sisneri road section have been advised to coordinate with security agencies before travelling.
As the reservoir’s water level continues to rise and further rainfall could necessitate water releases from the dam, the hydropower station has urged residents in downstream areas to remain particularly vigilant.
