Around 200 tourists stuck in Manang following heavy snowfall

Kathmandu, October 31: Approximately 200 tourists have been stranded in Manang following heavy snowfall in the Himalayan region caused by the impact of Cyclone Arnab, which developed over the Bay of Bengal.

Heavy snowfall in the Upper Manang region has increased the risks associated with trekking. Dhak Bahadur Bhujel, chief of the Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP) in Manang, said tourists had been advised not to travel after trekking routes were covered in snow.

According to him, tourists planning to visit popular destinations in Upper Manang are currently staying in Manang village. Although weather conditions have improved somewhat, the heavy snow has made trekking unsafe.

Chief District Officer Muktiprasad Khanal also said that tourists and local residents had been urged to remain in safe locations. He said that despite some improvement in the weather, conditions were still unsuitable for travel or visits to tourist destinations.

He added that the risks remain high as trekking trails are still covered in snow. Hotel operators have also been urged to discourage risky travel and ensure the safety of tourists.

According to the District Administration Office, light snowfall began on Thursday evening, while heavy snowfall continued from Friday through Saturday morning.
