PM Balen’s India visit: CEO roundtable to be held to attract Indian investment

Kathmandu, Oct 30: The Nepal-India Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI) and the Investment Board Nepal have held discussions on increasing Indian investment in Nepal and strengthening bilateral economic cooperation.

The meeting, held on Thursday at the Investment Board Nepal office in New Baneshwor, Kathmandu, discussed plans to organise a proposed Nepal-India Chief Executive Officers (CEO) Roundtable during Prime Minister Balendra Shah’s upcoming visit to India.

The two sides discussed ways to strengthen public-private sector cooperation, highlight successful Indian investments already operating in Nepal and attract fresh investment through targeted interactions between business leaders.

NICCI President Kunal Kayal briefed the meeting on the chamber’s extensive network of Indian business organisations and its established presence in India. He stressed the need to effectively promote Nepal’s investment potential and highlight the contributions of Indian businesses operating in the country.

NICCI Vice-President Gaurav Tayal said there were opportunities for cooperation in specialised healthcare, higher education, transport connectivity, logistics and supply chain management, and infrastructure. He stressed the need to identify investment opportunities that match Nepal’s development priorities and connect them with potential investors.

Investment Board Nepal Chief Executive Officer Yanki Ukyab called for stronger investment facilitation, better coordination among stakeholders and a systematic approach to investment promotion. She highlighted the importance of active private sector participation and well-prepared, concrete proposals to move investment opportunities forward.

The meeting also discussed the need for a clear agenda, prioritised sectors and participation by selected companies to make the proposed CEO Roundtable productive.

Participants also stressed the importance of exchanging knowledge and experience and strengthening ties between Nepal’s investment facilitation institutions and Indian business networks.

NICCI said it would continue engaging with relevant stakeholders to strengthen bilateral trade and investment relations.
