IPPAN urges international community to invest in Nepal’s reservoir model projects

Kathmandu, October 29: Mohan Kumar Dangi, president of the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN), has called on the international community, including Canada, to invest in and provide technical cooperation for the development of reservoir-based hydropower projects in Nepal.

Addressing the Canada Dam Association’s Annual Conference and Trade Show 2026, Dangi said that Canada’s experience in dam engineering, reservoir-based projects, hydropower technology and climate-resilient infrastructure development could be valuable to Nepal, creating opportunities for cooperation between the two countries.

Dangi said there was considerable potential for Nepal and Canada to collaborate in developing safe, sustainable and climate-resilient hydropower projects.

Stating that the Nepal government has set an ambitious target of increasing the country’s installed electricity generation capacity to 30,000 megawatts by 2035, Dangi said the goal would help meet Nepal’s growing domestic electricity demand while also creating opportunities to expand electricity exports to neighbouring countries.
