Kathmandu, October 27: Police have arrested four Indian nationals for allegedly stealing cash, gold and silver jewellery, and other valuables from houses and flats in various parts of Kathmandu when the occupants were away.
A team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested them along with the stolen goods on charges of committing theft at various houses in the Kalanki area.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Bikash Podar, 25; Rajukumar, also known as Raju Podar, 19; Rajendra Podar, also known as Rajendra Kumar, 23; and Bina Devi, 46. All four are originally from Khesaraha in Samastipur district of Bihar, India, and currently reside in Kalimati, Kathmandu Metropolitan City-13.
According to Superintendent of Police Rameshwar Karki of the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office, the investigation revealed that the suspects broke the door lock of a flat belonging to Sita Thapaliya, also known as Urmila, at Tasingdol Marg in Kalanki on Kartik 7 (October 24), when no one was home, and stole cash, gold and silver jewellery, and other valuables.
“We have arrested four Indian nationals on suspicion of involvement in stealing cash, gold and silver jewellery by breaking door locks when the occupants of houses and flats are away,” he said.
Police said the suspects were also found to have allegedly committed a theft at the house of Niranjan Nepal in Ranjit Colony, Kalanki, on the morning of Kartik 6 (October 23).
Following thefts at two different houses on consecutive days, police launched a search and investigation to identify those involved.
Superintendent of Police Karki said the four were arrested during the investigation on suspicion of involvement in the thefts. Police reported that cash and stolen gold and silver jewellery were recovered from their possession.
The Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office said all four suspects, along with the recovered items, had been handed over to the Kalimati Police Circle for further investigation and necessary legal action.
