Flood-hit trekking routes reopen in Rasuwa and Dhading

Kathmandu, Oct 25: Tourists can once again trek the Tamang Heritage Trail in Rasuwa and the Ruby Valley route in Dhading after a temporary footbridge was built over the Bhotekoshi River at Syafrubesi.

The August 26 flood had damaged the routes and cut off access to Syafrubesi. The new footbridge has restored the connection, allowing trekkers to resume their journeys, said Balram Neupane, president of the Rasuwa Nuwakot Tourism Society.

The Tamang Heritage Trail draws around 1,000 domestic and foreign visitors annually. The seven to 10-day trek passes through Syafrubesi, Bahundanda, Goljung and Gatlang in Aamachhodingmo Rural Municipality before reaching Parbatikunda.

Along the way, visitors can explore Tamang villages shaped by Tibetan culture, with traditional stone houses, monasteries and mani walls. The trail also offers views of the Ganesh Himal and Langtang ranges and the Chinese border, said Dinesh Tamang Phulung, secretary of the tourism society.

The route also connects trekkers to Ruby Valley in Dhading. From the Tamang Heritage Trail, visitors can continue to Somtang and Pangsang Pass in Ruby Valley Rural Municipality, explore Seto Daha and Kalo Daha lakes in the Ganesh Himal area, and travel towards Gangajamuna in Dhading or the Manaslu region in Gorkha.

Tourism entrepreneur Rakesh Dhamala said the temporary bridge had restored access to both trekking routes. Ruby Valley receives around 400 to 500 domestic and foreign tourists each year.

The Manaslu-Larke Pass trekking area, which was disrupted by flooding in the Budhigandaki River in Gorkha, has also reopened.

Other destinations affected by the Bhotekoshi flood, including Langtang, Kyanjin and Gosaikunda, had already resumed welcoming trekkers.

The Trekking Agencies’ Association of Nepal (TAAN) said a Bailey bridge at Betravati, damaged by the August 26 flood, had been replaced, providing two alternative routes to the Langtang region.

One route runs from Kathmandu through Trishuli and Betravati to Dhunche or Thulo Syafru, then continues through Bamboo, Lama Hotel and Langtang to Kyanjin. The other passes through Chisapani, Helambu, Tharepati, Ghopte, Gosaikunda and Thulo Syafru before joining the same trail to Kyanjin.

TAAN has advised trekkers, tourists and tourism operators to check trail conditions and take necessary safety precautions before travelling.
