Kathmandu, Oct 24: The Nepali Communist Party (NCP) is launching a two-month national awareness campaign today.
Party spokesperson Prakash Jwala said the campaign would be inaugurated at a press conference at the party’s central office in Paris Danda at 2:30 pm.
Party coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, popularly known as Prachanda, and co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal are scheduled to address the event, Jwala said.
A meeting of the party’s Central Coordination Committee on October 9 decided to run the campaign from October 24 to December 11. The party also decided to hold ward and municipal conventions before the upcoming local elections.
The campaign aims to protect national sovereignty, democracy and people’s rights, address livelihood concerns, complete party integration, renew membership and strengthen the organisation, according to the party’s decision.
The party plans to complete the remaining integration of party committees, sister organisations and front organisations, while accelerating membership renewal and expansion.
It will organise party meetings, gatherings and training programmes, along with public focused activities to strengthen ties between the party and the people. Cultural and other creative programmes are also planned.
The campaign will collect public demands and issues affecting daily livelihoods, submit them to the relevant authorities and push for their implementation.
Other activities include labour and public service programmes, as well as support for rescue, relief and rehabilitation efforts in disaster affected areas.
The party will also conduct public awareness programmes on national sovereignty, democracy, people’s rights, good governance and livelihood concerns.
It plans to draw the attention of the authorities to inflation, corruption, black marketing, unemployment, insecurity and other public grievances.
For this, the party will submit demands and memorandums to the prime minister at the federal level, chief ministers at the provincial level, and chief district officers or other relevant authorities in the districts.
