TU appears with new ambitious plans

Kathmandu, October 13: Tribhuvan University has introduced new plans to modernise its administrative, educational and academic structures through the expansion of digital services, promotion of research, institutional restructuring and financial reforms.

The university’s policy and programme for the current fiscal year were presented at a University Assembly meeting chaired by Tribhuvan University Co-Chancellor and Minister for Education and Sports Sasmita Pokharel. If implemented, these plans are expected to bring significant changes to the university’s administrative, educational and academic systems.

The policy and programme aim to transform the university from a teaching-centred institution into a research university focused on research, innovation and knowledge production. It also proposes gradually transforming the university into a “digital university” by adopting digital technology across its academic, administrative and service delivery systems.

The policy and programme has been formulated in alignment with the university’s Strategic Plan 2024–2028 and the report of the Organisation and Management Survey.

The university has also outlined plans to link its annual academic plans and programmes with the strategic plan, utilise research findings in policymaking, and bring all its bodies under a results-oriented management system.

From Mobile Apps to Digital Dashboards

Tribhuvan University plans to launch an integrated mobile application to make academic administration and service delivery more convenient, transparent and accessible. It has also proposed developing a digital dashboard that will provide integrated access to various types of university-related data. The university believes the dashboard will be useful for policymaking, monitoring and faster decision-making.

The university has stated that it will complete the digital mapping of its constituent and affiliated campuses within the current fiscal year. This will enable the locations, infrastructure, academic programmes and other details of the campuses to be viewed in an integrated format.

According to the policy and programme, the university plans to strengthen internet and intranet infrastructure across all its constituent bodies and gradually digitise academic and administrative records.

Goal of Fully Digitising the Examination System

Tribhuvan University aims to fully implement its Examination Management Information System. Through this system, services such as answer-sheet evaluation, publication of examination results, management of academic records and distribution of certificates will be handled digitally. The university expects this to make the examination system more transparent, secure and timely.

The review section of the policy and programme states that online services have already been expanded at the Office of the Controller of Examinations, while online payments and the distribution of mark sheets and transcripts have been made more convenient through provincial examination control offices.

Work has also begun on implementing a system to deliver question papers for examinations at all levels to examination centres through online channels.
