Kathmandu, October 12: The Prithvi Highway in the Galaundi area of Dhading will remain closed from 11 p.m. tonight until 5 a.m. tomorrow (Tuesday) to allow road repairs.
According to a notice issued by Dhading Chief District Officer Laxmi Pandey (Gautam), traffic along the highway will be suspended to repair the road in Galaundi, Ward No. 5 of Gajuri Rural Municipality, where the road subsided due to erosion by the Trishuli River.
The highway was obstructed on Friday, October 9 (Ashoj 23), after the road subsided. It was reopened on October 10 (Ashoj 24) following a full day of repair efforts. However, authorities have decided to close it again tonight for further maintenance.
The closure of the national highway just ahead of the Dashain festival has disrupted transportation. Punya Prasad (Saroj) Sitaula, president of the National Federation of Nepal Transport Entrepreneurs, said the highway closure during the festive season had created challenges for passenger transport.
“Thousands of passengers have booked their tickets in advance ahead of Dashain. Under these circumstances, the highway closure has caused difficulties for both transport entrepreneurs and the general public,” he said.
A total of 207,251 passengers departed from the New Bus Park in Kathmandu between October 4 and 12 (Ashoj 17–25) to celebrate Dashain.
Pankaj Malla, general manager of Lotse Multipurpose Pvt. Ltd., the company operating the New Bus Park, informed that 207,251 passengers had left the bus park during the period.
