Preparations intensify for PM’s India visit

Kathmandu, Oct 5: Preparations are gathering pace for Prime Minister Balendra Shah (Balen) to visit India.

According to a high-level source, preparations are underway for Prime Minister Shah to visit India in the last week of November or the first week of December 2026, corresponding to the second or third week of the Nepali month Mangsir.

“Preparations for the prime minister’s India visit have begun. The exact date has not yet been fixed, but work is underway for the visit to take place either in the last week of November or the first week of December,” the source said.

Officials from Nepal’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and India’s Ministry of External Affairs are currently discussing arrangements for the visit and ways to ensure its success, the source said.

“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is consulting various ministries to set the agenda. Once proposals are received from all the ministries, further discussions will be held with India,” the source said. “Post-flood reconstruction following the Bhotekoshi disaster will receive the highest priority during the visit.”

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi telephoned Shah shortly after he took the oath of office on March 27, 2026 (Chaitra 13, 2082), congratulating him and inviting him to visit India.

However, Prime Minister Shah had not travelled to India since then for various reasons.

With Shah now ready to make the visit, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has stepped up preparations for his trip to India.
