
Kathmandu, October 4: The 15th General Convention of the Nepali Congress (Gagan faction) is beginning today.
The convention will be inaugurated this afternoon at Tundikhel in Kathmandu. The closed-door sessions will be held on Ashoj 19 and 20, while the convention delegates will participate in the election process on Ashoj 21 and 22. The elections will be held at the Rastriya Sabha Griha and Nepal Academy, according to the party.
According to Nepali Congress spokesperson Devraj Chalise, more than 7,500 delegates from Nepal and abroad will participate in the convention.
Delegates attending the convention began the registration process at the party headquarters in Bipinagar, Sanepa, on Saturday. Separate rooms have been arranged for registration of delegates from each province. After paying a registration fee of Rs. 3,500, each delegate will receive a bag for the 15th General Convention containing the party statute, notebook, pen and other materials.
Leaders of Other Parties to Attend
According to spokesperson Chalise, representatives of the party’s sister organizations from abroad have also arrived in Kathmandu to participate in the convention. He said former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba has been invited to attend the inauguration of the 15th General Convention. Deuba, however, has been proceeding with a separate convention process of his own faction.
Leaders of other political parties will also attend the inauguration ceremony. According to spokesperson Chalise, the leaders scheduled to attend include Rabi Lamichhane, president of the Rastriya Swatantra Party; KP Sharma Oli, chairman of the CPN-UML; Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’, coordinator of the Nepali Communist Party; Rajendra Lingden, chairman of the Rastriya Prajatantra Party; Upendra Yadav, chairman of the Janata Samajbadi Party; CK Raut, chairman of the Janamat Party; Aren Rai, general secretary of the Shram Sanskriti Party; and Ghanshyam Paudel, acting general secretary of the Rastriya Janamorcha.
Among the foreign guests, Chantal Kambirwa, Executive Coordinator of the Socialist International, has already arrived in Nepal to participate in the convention.
