KATHMANDU, Sept 27: Police on Sunday took former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana into custody from his residence in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu.
According to sources, a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office arrested Rana on Sunday. Authorities have yet to disclose the reason for his arrest or provide details about the case linked to the action.
Further information from the police is awaited.
Rana was appointed chief justice on January 2, 2019 (Poush 17, 2075). His tenure later became embroiled in controversy, culminating in the registration of an impeachment motion against him in the House of Representatives on February 13, 2022 (Falgun 1, 2078).
The impeachment motion resulted in his immediate suspension from the post of Chief Justice.
