Kathmandu, Sept 26: Nepal’s men’s cricket match against hosts Japan at the Asian Games ended without a result on Saturday after rain prevented the second innings from taking place.
The match at Korogi Athletic Park had already been reduced to 15 overs a side after rain delayed the toss.
Sent in to bat after losing the toss, Nepal posted 149 for four in their allotted 15 overs. Sandeep Jora top scored with an unbeaten 57 off 32 balls, hitting five fours and three sixes.
Lokesh Bam provided late acceleration with an unbeaten 52 from just 22 deliveries, smashing six sixes and a four. Aasif Sheikh contributed 21 runs.
For Japan, Reo Sakurano Thomas, Ibrahim Takahashi, Jake Kusudo and Declan Suzuki took one wicket each.
However, persistent rain prevented Japan from beginning their chase and the match was eventually abandoned. The two teams shared one point each.
With the result, Nepal finished top of Group A with three points from two matches and advanced to the quarterfinals as group winners. Afghanistan, who collected two points, progressed as runners up, while hosts Japan were eliminated after finishing bottom of the group with one point.
Nepal had defeated Afghanistan in their opening match, while Japan lost to Afghanistan.
Nepal will now face Sri Lanka in the quarterfinals.
