Kathmandu, Sept 19: A meeting of the Intergovernmental Subcommittee on Trade, Transit and Control of Unauthorised Trade between Nepal and India concluded in India on Friday.
India’s Ministry of Commerce and Industry said the meeting, held over two days, included detailed discussions on strengthening bilateral trade, transit facilities and economic cooperation.
According to the ministry, the two sides discussed easing market access for agricultural, dairy and food products, medicines and medical devices. They agreed to simplify customs procedures by prioritising advance information sharing, electronic verification of certificates of origin, customs automation and digitisation.
The ministry said both countries agreed to remove operational barriers to bilateral and transit trade through the effective use of rail and road networks, integrated check posts and land port infrastructure.
The two sides also agreed to cooperate in curbing unauthorised trade and commercial fraud while facilitating legitimate trade across the border. They reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral trade, transit and economic ties.
Buddha Bahadur Gurung, joint secretary at Nepal’s Ministry of Industry, Commerce and Supplies, led the Nepali delegation. Ujjwal Kumar Ghosh, joint secretary at India’s Department of Commerce, headed the Indian delegation.
