Kathmandu, September 18: Nepal Rastra Bank has brought a new Rs. 50 banknote into circulation. The central bank has introduced the Rs. 50 worth banknote bearing the year 2082 B.S., in the same size and colour as the existing note, effective from September 18.The Currency Management Department of Nepal Rastra Bank issued a notice on Friday announcing the introduction of the new note. The new banknote bears the signature of Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Prof. Dr. Biswanath Poudel.
The middle section of the front side of the new note carries the promissory statement: “Nepal Rastra Bank, guaranteed by the Government of Nepal, will immediately pay the bearer Rs. 50 (fifty rupees) upon demand.”
An image of Mount Everest is featured on the left side of the note, while a watermark of the rhododendron, Nepal’s national flower, is placed on the right. The number “50” is also printed below the watermark, according to the central bank. The lower section of the note bears the inscription “B.S. 2082” in Nepali.
The note also contains a 1.2-millimetre-wide security thread woven into the paper. When the note is held up to the light, the security thread becomes fully visible and bears the inscription “NRB.”
The middle section of the reverse side of the note features an image of a snow leopard. The words “Nepal Rastra Bank” appear above it. The lower section of the reverse side bears the English inscriptions “RUPEES FIFTY” and “2025 A.D.”
According to Nepal Rastra Bank, the serial numbers of the new notes will range from 24 000001 to 70 999999.
Nepal Rastra Bank has been urging the general public to preserve banknotes as national assets. The notice concerning the new banknote also carries the message: “The banknote is a national asset; let us preserve it.”
