Kathmandu, September 17: Asoj 1 (September 17) is being observed as the Vastu Day and Bishwakarma Pooja across the nation.
Lord Bishwakarma is ritually worshipped every year on the day of Ashwin Sankranti. The festival is observed at various factories and industrial establishments by performing rituals before images of Lord Bishwakarma.
Workers decorate factories and industrial premises specially and celebrate the festival with great enthusiasm. Idols of Lord Bishwakarma made from soil and other materials are worshipped today.
There is a religious belief that worshipping the tools used by artisans on this day makes them last longer, prevents them from malfunctioning while at work and helps artisans perform their work more effectively.
According to Vastu scholar Shiva Pokharel, Bishwakarma is believed to have authored ‘Vishwakarma Prakash’, a classical treatise on Vastu Shastra.
In his memory, artisans in Nepal celebrate Bishwakarma Puja with great enthusiasm and pay tribute to his knowledge and scholarship.
Vastu scholars observe the day as Vastu Day in memory of the authors and scholars of Vastu Shastra.
In recent years, a revival of Vastu Vidya has also begun in Nepal. Vastu Shastra is mentioned in the Sthapatya Veda, one of the four Upavedas. People perform Vastu Pooja while constructing new houses.
